Professor of Latin at Stellenbosch University for more than 30 years
François Smuts was born on 1 April 1916 on the farm Bontevlei, near
Stellenbosch. He matriculated from Paul Roos Gymnasium, Stellenbosch, and
studied at the universities of
Stellenbosch (MA) and Utrecht (D Litt - Title of thesis: Die Etiek van Seneca).
1.7.1951 - 31.12.1981: Professor of Latin at Stellenbosch University.
Frans Smuts died on 27 March 1987.
