Christo Botha was born on 11 December 1916 in Caledon. He studied Afrikaans, English and History at the universities of Stellenbosch (BA 1940) and Cape Town (MA 1944).
He retired as head of the English Department, Paarl Teacher's College in 1977.
He is married to Hettie Botha and has two sons, Dawid and Willem.
